Sam and James discuss the often long durations of superhero movies, what they might do if society broke down around them in a particularly violent manner, and how James Gunn used his Guardians of the Galaxy clout take part in The Belko Experiment.

Loren has chosen Heavy Metal (90 mins), the adult animated science fantasy anthology movie from 1981. Produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, the film stars the voices of Rodger Bumpass, Jackie Burroughs, John Candy, and Eugene Levy.
Sam and Loren discuss the film's cult status, it's incredible soundtrack, and how Heavy Metal may have influenced Bob's Burgers.

Mike has chosen Grave Of The Fireflies (89 mins), directed by Isao Takahata and animated by Studio Ghibli. Released in 1988 in a double bill with My Neighbour Totoro, the film features the voices of Tsutomu Tatsumi and Ayano Shiraishi.
Sam and Mike discuss the challenges of editing a story down to a reasonable run time, the exceptional level of detail in Grave Of The Fireflies, and what Hayao Miyazaki would think of The Mitchells Vs. The Machines.

In episode 76 Sam is joined by Peter Lord, co-founder and Creative Director of Aardman Animations. Peter is the creator of Morph, co-director of Chicken Run and executive producer on the iconic Wallace & Gromit films.
Peter has chosen Władysław Starewicz's The Mascot (aka Fétiche 33-12). This stop-motion animated short was originally released in 1934 and is 34 minutes long. The film has been recently restored and is available on DVD (search for Fétiche 33-12) and a 4K version is also available to watch on YouTube.
Sam and Peter discuss the history of Aardman Animations, the astonishing stop-motion animation work in The Mascot and the fate of the iconic skiing gas cooker in A Grand Day Out.
