In episode 78 Sam is joined by Craig Roberts, director of The Phantom Of The Open starring Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins.
Craig has chosen David Lynch's 1977 feature debut Eraserhead (89 minutes). Shot over five years, the film stars Jack Nance, Charlotte Stewart, Jeanne Bates, Judith Anna Roberts, Laurel Near, and Jack Fisk
Sam and Craig discuss the direct influence David Lynch has had on Craig's filmmaking, Eraserhead's haunting sound design and attempt to work out the meaning of the movie.

In episode 77 Sam is joined by Mike Rianda, writer and and director of Oscar-nominated animation The Mitchells Vs. The Machines.
Mike has chosen Grave Of The Fireflies (89 mins), directed by Isao Takahata and animated by Studio Ghibli. Released in 1988 in a double bill with My Neighbour Totoro, the film features the voices of Tsutomu Tatsumi and Ayano Shiraishi.
Sam and Mike discuss the challenges of editing a story down to a reasonable run time, the exceptional level of detail in Grave Of The Fireflies, and what Hayao Miyazaki would think of The Mitchells Vs. The Machines.

In our previous episode Sam spoke to Peter Lord, co-founder and Creative Director of Aardman Animations, about Władysław Starewicz's The Mascot (aka Fétiche 33-12).
During the interview, Sam asked Peter about his work on Aardman Animations' iconic Chicken Run (84 mins), which he co-directed with Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park. It was such a fun chat and we thought it'd make for a great - bonus episode - enjoy!

In episode 76 Sam is joined by Peter Lord, co-founder and Creative Director of Aardman Animations. Peter is the creator of Morph, co-director of Chicken Run and executive producer on the iconic Wallace & Gromit films.
Peter has chosen Władysław Starewicz's The Mascot (aka Fétiche 33-12). This stop-motion animated short was originally released in 1934 and is 34 minutes long. The film has been recently restored and is available on DVD (search for Fétiche 33-12) and a 4K version is also available to watch on YouTube.
Sam and Peter discuss the history of Aardman Animations, the astonishing stop-motion animation work in The Mascot and the fate of the iconic skiing gas cooker in A Grand Day Out.

Brian has chosen Don Bluth's 1982 animated feature, The Secret of NIMH (82 minutes). Bluth's directorial debut features the voices of Hermione Baddeley, John Carradine, Dom DeLuise, and Derek Jacobi.

Reggie has chosen the classic 1980 parody Airplane! (87 mins) by comedy filmmaking trio Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker. The film stars stars Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty and features Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Lorna Patterson.
Sam and Reggie discuss his new under 90 minute movie Pirates, his memories of watching Airplane! with his family and Reggie's favourite London cinemas.
