In episode 114 Sam is joined by playwright and screenwriter Tom Morton-Smith. His plays include Oppenheimer, Ravens: Spassky vs. Fischer, and the Olivier award-winning My Neighbour Totoro which premiered at the Barbican in London.
Tom has chosen Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (90 mins) from 1989. Directed by Stephen Herek, the movie stars Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, and George Carlin.
Sam and Tom discuss adapting the iconic My Neighbour Totoro for the stage, Bill & Ted's vague logic around time travel, and the enduring friendship of the two main characters.

In episode 113 Sam is joined by Tricia Tuttle, head of directing fiction at the NFTS, and director of the Berlin International Film Festival from April 2024.
Tricia has chosen Under The Skin (79 mins) from 1997. The first and only feature directed by Carine Adler, the film stars Samantha Morton, Claire Rushbrook, and Rita Tushingham.
Sam and Tricia discuss how Tricia became a film festival programmer, Samantha Morton's star-making turn as Iris, and the ground-breaking British cinema scene of the late 90s.

In episode 111 Sam is joined by director and producer Marc Jobst. His new show, the live-action adaptation of ONE PIECE is now streaming on Netflix.
Simon has chosen Small Axe: Lovers Rock (68 mins), directed by Steve McQueen and co-written by McQueen and Courttia Newland. The film originally aired on the BBC as part of the Small Axe series in 2020. Lovers Rock stars Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, with original music by Mica Levi.
Sam and Marc discuss his career working in television, how he realised the epic scale of the ONE PIECE in live-action and how Lovers Rock captured a moment in time for audiences.

In episode 105 Sam is joined by Celine Song, writer and director of Past Lives.
Celine has chosen Andrew Bujalski’s Computer Chess (90 minutes) from 2013. The film is set over the course of a weekend tournament for chess software programmers thirty-some years ago. It’s an American independent comedy, filmed on a ‘80s black and white video camera and presented as a documentary.
Sam and Celine discuss the origins of Past Lives and Sharon Van Etten’s end credits song, as well as the subject of AI and how Andrew Bujalski’s work on Computer Chess is increasingly more relevant today.
Past Lives is in cinemas now, released by Studio Canal in the UK and A24 in the USA.
