Sam Clements is curating a fictional film festival. He'll accept almost anything, but the movie must not be longer than 90 minutes. This is the 90 Minutes Or Less Film Fest podcast.
In episode 34 Sam is joined by film critic and broadcaster Clarisse Loughrey. Clarisse is the chief film critic for The Independent and a regular stand-in for Mark Kermode on BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘Kermode and Mayo’ film review (aka Wittertainment).
Clarisse has chosen the 88 minute long House [Hausu] (ハウス), Nobuhiko Ôbayashi's cult horror film from 1977. The film was originally commissioned to be the "Japanese Jaws" but became entirely it's own - very unique - thing...
Clarisse and Sam talk about getting started as a film critic on the radio, the origins of House, Nicolas Cage's Japanese pachinko commercials, and a very prominent dancing skeleton!
